About Waipu Boat and Fishing Club
The Waipu Boat & Fishing Club was started in 1962 in our current club rooms by local Bream Bay Fishing and Boating enthusiasts. Today we follow in the community tradition with a club still run and supported by the its local members, fostering safe and responsible fishing and boating practices.
We have a number of regular competitions, club days and inter-club challenges. All members and non-members are welcome to partipate in any of our events.
To become a member, simply download the , complete it and post it back to the club with your cheque, or you can pop into Waipu Lotto and fill out a form there and you can pay by eftpos, cash or cheque.
The Boat Ramp and Jetty are there for the benefit of all our community, so if you are wanting to pop down for a bit of Spratt of Kahawai fishing off the jetty or launch your boat, please just help yourself. Remember to pack in and pack out, please take your rubbish with you and leave the grounds in a tidy manner. If you plan to launch your boat from the ramp and fish up the river, be sure to ask around for the deep side of the river and local hazards. The Bar at the Waipu River Mouth can be treacherous, it is not recommended to try this bar crossing without first being shown or talked through the process. We do advise taking a drive to Johnson Point Road off Cove Road at low tide, then you can walk the Bar and see where the current channel and sand deposits are, it does change regularly with tidal movements, rain, wind.
The Whangarei Coastguard is on VHF Channel 64 and you can log your trips reports with them. In an emergency you can broadcast on Channel 16 or if using a cellphone dial *500 for the Coastguard. The Northern Regional Coastguard does an amazing job and is made up largely of volunteers, please join now if you haven't already.
